Properties:
Vitamin K consists of two groups, one called Vitamin K1, available in green leafy vegetables, and K2, which is synthesized by intestinal bacteria and is also available in cheese and natto (fermented soybeans, a typical Japanese product). Most people ingest enough vitamin K for proper blood clotting. However, recent studies show that the current recommended daily dose is not sufficient to support bone and vascular health functions. In blood clotting, the role of vitamin K has been known since 1930. It is crucial in the formation of 8 clotting factors that convert soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin in the circulation. Fibrin is used directly to form clots. Most people have sufficient vitamin K levels to support this function. Regarding bone health, research indicates that the non-carboxylation of the Gla-Osteoclacin protein is correlated with low bone density and, consequently, a higher risk factor. Supplementation with vitamin K2, and not K1, reduced the incidence of fractures, the rate of bone mineral density loss and increased bone strength. In the bloodstream, recent research has revealed that the matrix of Gla proteins can inhibit the calcification of blood vessels and even reverse the calcification process and restore arterial flexibility. Vitamin K2 is necessary for this process.Composition:
